Desensitization and counterconditioning (D&C) is the process by which we help change the emotional response your dog has to the conditions and events that currently trigger an inappropriate emotional response, a necessary first step in most aggression therapy and separation anxiety therapy.

As part of your Aggression or Separation Anxiety treatment program, we will recommend you follow a detailed plan to ensure all steps are taken, tracked and monitored for progress in this process. You are provided with the workbook and the rules for building your own plan as part of the program. After understanding the rules for building the plan yourself, you may wish to have more help in actually itemizing your trials and planning your increments.

If you elect for this add-on support, together we will identify a list of your dog’s behaviours associated with arousal, aggression or anxiety, and list events, locations, guarded items, contexts, antecedents and other triggers, as well as “safe” non-triggers.  You’ll then be provided with a detailed online plan and tracking chart to help you through all the steps you’ll take in your D&C project(s). You’ll be asked to fill it out the results as you progress, making any increment changes you discover you need along the way, and your coach will review your data before each session to help guide the consult in the most productive path.
