Training Dog Owners

In this presentation, devised for pet-dog instructors in classes or private instruction, focuses on teaching the real client in dog training at the other end of the leash – the human owner.

Often dog trainers start by becoming expert at training dogs. Sometimes this translates naturally and easily into training owners to train their dogs, but it must be recognized as a separate skill set.

This workshop focuses on the elements of teaching human beings the physical and mental skills they will need to train their dogs.

Subjects include:

• Learning styles and adapting your training to different learners
• Communicating what comes naturally to you as a mechanical task
• Coaching styles – how to mark, reward and correct dog owners
• Getting owner compliance
• Working with difficult dog training clients
